• The Age of Tribal States
- Ulsan was affiliated to the one of the tribal states, called Jin Han.
• The era of the Three Kingdoms
- The Kingdom of Silla established the type of city called Hyeun in GulAhwa
village,during the era of King PaSa, the fifth King of Silla.
• The era of the Joseon Dynasty
- Ulju was raised to the status of Ulsan-district in the 13th year of King
TaeJong,and then raised to that of Ulsan DoHoBu in the 31st year of King SeonJo
- The Ulsan DoHoBu was renamed to Ulsan-district during the 32nd year of King
GoJong.
• The Modern Ages
- Eonyang district was affiliated to Ulsan district as a result of the
reorganization of local administrative regions in 1914.
- Ulsan myeon(a subdistrict) was raised to the status of Ulsan town in 1931, as
a result of the reorganization of the sub area system.
- Bangeojin was raised to the status of town in 1934.

The Present Age
- Ulsan was designated a special Industrial Zone on Feb. 1st, 1962, according to
a Cabinet ordinance(No. 403). It was raised to the status of Ulsan city on June 1st, 1962.
- The organization of the District called Gu was carried into effect on July 15,
1985.
<And so there were forty dong(a village), one branch office and two Districts in
Ulsan>
- Bangeojin Branch Office was raised to the status of Donggu-District on Jan.
1st, 1988.

- Ulju county was intergrated into the city of Ulsan on Jan. 1st, 1995.
- Raised to the status of Ulsan Metropolitan City on July 15, 1997.
