- 665 Wooden tablets dating from this year were discovered at Yashiro historical site (Koshoku city).
- 704 The first seal of Shinano province was made and Shinano became the official name.
- 721 Shinano province was divided to create Suwa province. The two provinces merged again 10 years later.
- 938 Masakado Taira fought near Shinano Kokubunji.
- 1180 Yoshinaka Kiso (Minamoto) raised an army in cooperation with Yoritomo Minamoto.
- 1279 Saint Ippen visited Zenkoji Temple by way of Saku Tomonosho.
- 1333 Kamakura Shogunate fell. Hojo Kamejyumaru(Tokiyuki) fled to Suwa and affenpfed to re-esfablished his rule.
- 1400 Protector Nagahide Ogasawara was defeated by powerful clans from northern Shinano at the battle of Daito.
- 1561 Kenshin Uesugi and Shingen Takeda fought on Kawanaka Island (for the 4th time).
- 1592 Kazumasa Ishikawa and his son started to build Matsumoto Castle around this time.
- 1600 Hidetada Tokugawa's army attacked Sanada at Ueda Castle on his way to the battle of Sekigahara.
- 1761 Peasants under the rule of the Lord of Ueda staged a massive revolt (Horeki uprising).
- 1864 Zozan Sakuma, a Matsushiro clansman, was assassinated at Kyoto.
- 1876 Chikuma and Nagano merged to form Nagano prefecture.
